What do the following quotations mean to you?
"Without fraternity, liberty and equality could not become a natural course of things.." - B. R. ambedkar
Approach
In the introduction, briefly Write the contribution of Babasaheb Ambedkar for the weaker sections of the society.
Further explain with arguments how important brotherhood is, for liberty and equality.
Conclude appropriately with the importance of fraternity in Indian society.
Answer -
Dr. Ambedkar has always been known for his role in the struggle for modern India. He was a vocal supporter of equality and rights of the untouchables. He was a patriot who always believed in liberty, equality and fraternity.
Fraternity is a pre-condition for liberty and equality:
Fraternity means the feeling of brotherhood among all Indians - to be united as Indians. It is the principle that unites social life. Without fraternity it is difficult to achieve equality and freedom in society. In Indian society people have divided themselves into different castes and religions.
People of different castes and religions place each other in a hierarchy. They do not see each other as equal participants in society. At present, hatred and bigotry on the basis of caste and religion are increasing which is becoming evident from the incidents of lynchings and riots.
The biggest reason for such things is the lack of fraternity among people. People consider their caste and religion above national interest.
Fraternity as Sympathy:
Fraternity in the present day means various activities experienced by humans in daily life such as wearing different types of clothes, worshiping different deities, speaking different languages, following different political views, in fact all In the same inherent human dignity and emotion, dreams, hopes, disappointments, pain, joy, anger, love, triumph and defeat are experienced.
Fraternity requires imagination of how the other feels. It requires feeling the suffering and humiliation of the other and thinking that we were once one. Only then we can treat all people as equals.
The fraternity will grow only when we think that the victim is also connected to me and feel that he is the same as me, then only I can better imagine what the other person is feeling.
Fraternity as Solidarity:
If we are trying to achieve a society where everyone has equal status in the society then solidarity is extremely important.
We cannot leave the victims of injustice just to deal with our problems. In a society built of social cohesion, when violence occurs with minorities, the majority class comes out to fight for justice and opposes caste discrimination.
In India, we agitate only when injustice is done to our caste or religion. But we have to keep solidarity with people of all castes and religions.
Conclusion: If we want to realize the constitutional dream which has equal value for all and everyone has the freedom to pursue their dreams without social restrictions, then fraternity is the only thing that we should try to achieve as a nation in the contemporary times.
